The Best Bag For...

The title says it all.
Work:
A roomy and professional bag is needed. A dark-coloured tote is the best for work. They hold all your personal items, a file folder or two and your sack lunch. You can even fit a pair of heels in there for grabbing drinks after work.
An example...
A Day Trip:
A fun, bright, shoulder bag is a great option. To stow your essentials, like money, phone and keys.
An example...
Glitzy Event:
When heading to a night in the city or prom, a bag with sass and sparkle is needed. A box clutch with a lot of personality is needed. Pick a colour of it that fits your dress, something that should not blend in.
An example...
A Family Affair:
For a family event such as baby shower or family reunion, you would need something retro pattern and shape.
An example...
A Wedding:
You need something feminine and sophisticated for a wedding reception. Have a bag with sequins, ruffles or something cheeky.
An example...
School:
You would need a large, roomy shoulder bag. Something like a leather cross-body satchel or a large shopper, to carry books, pens and the occasional laptop.
An example...
Your Birthday Party:
On your birthday you are the centre of attention. Go with something trendy but simple, but to give off the "I just show up to these things looking fabulous all the time" look.
An example...
A Casual Night Out:
So you are heading out to your favourite pub for a beer and a snack. You want to look cute, but not like you are trying to hard. A snakeskin bag with a moody colour would be the perfect choice.
An example...
A Summer Festival:
A summer festival has plenty of fresh air, live music and finger food, which calls for a bit of boho fun. You should choose an over-the-shoulder satchel with fringe, feathers or one made from tooled leather.
An example...
The Beach:
You should have a big totes with a lot of space for water bottles, snacks and towels. Something in a vivid colour, which can be easily spotted in the sand when coming back from the water.
An example...

These are just some of the many bags on different occasions you would need.

Happy Halloween! :)

Halloween is also known as All Hallows' Eve and it is celebrated on October the 31st. It is a time of remembering the dead.
Typical festive Halloween activities include:
  • Trick-or-treating
  • Going to costume parties
  • Decorating
  • Carving Pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns
  • Lighting bonfires
  • Apple bobbing
  • Visiting haunted houses
  • Playing pranks
  • Telling scary stories
  • Watching horror films
The word Halloween or Hallowe'en dates to about 1745 and is of Christian origin. The word 'Halloween' means 'hallowed evening' or 'holy evening'.
Halloween was not like now along time ago. People did not trick-or-treat or do other stuff that we do now. This tradition of trick-or-treating was invented by the Americans. A long time ago this day was named Samhain (pronounced Sah-ween) by the Celtic people. It was the biggest holiday of the year for the Celtic people. They believed that the souls of dead people could mingle with the living and also cross to the underworld. On this day had a festival sacrificing many objects, such as animals, fruits and vegetables. They also lit bonfires in honor of the dead, to help them on their journey and keep them away from the living. On this day many creatures were abroad, ghosts, fairies and demons; creatures of the night and darkness.

The Hand Position Says It All

Scrolling through Tumblr, I have found this. I diagram showing where a guy places his hand and the meaning of where he places it. It is pretty accurate.
The hand positons are:
Friend - upper back
Boyfriend - middle back
Pervert - the bottom, ass, bum
Virgin - hand on shoulders or slightly underneath shoulders (both cases hand slightly also away)
You - this part is a joke (ignore it)

Feeling Wheel

This is a Feeling Wheel. For a lot of people it is hard to put their feelings into words and to identify the emotions they are feeling. This wheel can get to the core emotion that you are experiencing and help you name each feeling when you're overwhelmed with many emotions.

Skirt/ Dress Length Meaning

Ladies/ woman/ teenagers/ girls this is so true. Respect this and only do it, when you understand the consequences of this. Consequences of what? THIS! The how high skirt should go.
Order from the lowest skirt to the highest skirt:
- Matronly
- Prudish

The consequences of wearing a skirt are: MEN! Men who are disgusting. Not all men are disgusting, but some are. I found this pictures on Tumblr and decided that this is an accurate picture of some women. Don't judge. Think about where your skirt get up and then think about the meaning of it.
Ask these questions yourself:
  1. Is the length of the clothing item suitable for your age?
  2. Is it suitable for your carrier?
  3. Is it the true self of you?
  4. Do you like the length of it?
  5. Why do you like/ dislike the length of it?
  6. If, you don't like it, how can you improve it?
  7. Do other people think you look nice in it?
  8. Are you happy of how the way you look?
  9. Is your 'inside' self approving for it? (mental self, soul, conscience, brain, etc.)
  10. Are the answers of these questions TRULY answered?

The last question is - What is your usually length of skirts?
Comment below.
Mine?
For school = Old Fashioned

10 Things To Not Say To A Depressed Person

This is taken from a web site.
These are 10 things not to say to a depressed person.
This is the web site:

http://nochnoch.com/2012/02/20/10-things-not-to-say-to-a-depressed-person-and-please-dont-ever-say-to-me-either/

1. “Remain Positive”
I think: Duh! I know – but how? To me, my reality is that the world has alreadycaved in. What is irrational to you makes utmost sense to me. I’m so angry / upset / sad / lonely / devastated / hopeless / in despair… Why can’t you understand me?
I feel: Recoil further into my shell to avoid future contact and meaningless advice because you never told me how to remain positive.

2. “Don’t think like that”
I think: Why not? What’s wrong with thinking like I do? It’s an honest opinion. I really think this. It’s negative all right, but that’s what I think, so what’s wrong? So how should I think instead? Like you? But I don’t agree with you, and then I become you if I think like you…?
I feel: I did something wrong for thinking a certain way, and you reprimanded me for thinking so. Thus, I withdraw, and berate myself for thinking the way I do, and spiral further down into depression due to self-criticism.

3. “Pull yourself together” / “Snap out of it” and the likes
I think: How? Snap out of what? I don’t want to be like this either, you think it’s fun?
I feel: Feel completely useless and hopeless that I’m incapable of holding myself together and getting better. Depression snowballs with this sense of incompetence.

4. “Why do you need to be depressed?”
I think: Umm… I don’t know, I wish I knew. Doctors said it’s because of some imbalance in serotonin in me. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know. I DON’T KNOW!!!!!!!
I feel: Accused of committing a heinous crime to be depressed. Confused because I don’t know what happened to make me depressed and how it all happened. Lost since I don’t know how to get out of depression. Feel inferior and worse about myself, so I hide from you as well because I don’t want to feel inadequate.

5. “Look at how lucky you are already! Be thankful”
I think: I am thankful for what I have. But what does that have to do with depression? Doctors and every website I’ve read say depression is an illness and has biological factors. Depression needs to be treated as any other sickness. You are lucky too, be thankful – stop having a freaking cold and sneezing germs into the air I breathe!
I feel: Misunderstood as a spoilt, ungrateful little girl when I’m not. Frustrated for being misunderstood, cry, wail, sad. Retreat into my hiding place – again.

6.  Go do something and you will feel better.”
I think: Go do what? I can’t be bothered. I’m tired. I’m not interested. I have no energy. I just want to sleep. Doing something won’t make me feel better. Leave me alone.
I feel: Tired and lethargic, and no energy to think about what to do. Harassed because you keep telling me to do something.
(N.B. What did work, was instead of telling me to do something,my fiancé simply made me put my clothes on, slid me into my boots, and dragged me out of the house for a walk, talking about random things on the way, not once mentioning anything to do how I was doing or asking if I felt better.)

7.  “What’s wrong with you?”
I think: I WISH I KNEW. I wish I knew. Oh how I wish I knew. Can you tell me? Can somebody tell me? I don’t want to be like this. Why am I like this?
I feel: Absolutely hopeless because I don’t know why I became like this, and I was unable to find out the reasons behind my depression. Very belittled and angry at myself. Can’t deal with this. I might as well die.

8. “You should do this…” or “You should not do this (such as kill yourself)…”
I think: Why? This is my life, I’m allowed to end it if I want. Why should I eat? I’m not hungry.
I feel: Patronized by your condescending tone (even if you didn’t have one). Rejected for not doing what you think I am supposed to. Another bash to my already dwindling self-confidence – you just succeeded in making me feel more desperate and more depressed.

9.  “See how others suffer even worst, and have no food to eat, be grateful for what you have”
I think: But you told me not to compare myself with others when I told you I was envious of others who have achieved more than me. So how double faced is it that just because others are less fortunate I can compare with them? I know you are trying to tell me I should count my blessings – I do, trust me I do. But how does this solve my depression? I still feel that life is not worth living despite being grateful for what I have. I am too tired to carry on and try.
I feel: Baffled as to why sometimes you say don’t compare and other times you tell me to do so. I don’t understand how being thankful makes me feel better, because what I have now has no meaning and no value to me. I JUST WANT TO DIE. Maybe if I die, there’d be more food for those who don’t have any. Proceed to jumping out the window from 30th floor.

10.  “It’s all in your head…”
I think: IT’S NOT! But I know. How do I change my head? It’s not my fault. I didn’t want this. I can’t control it. I’m trying but I can’t!
I feel: Furious at myself for not being able to control my head and thinking. Inept at everything I’m trying to do and worse, for disappointing you. Alone that no one can understand me. Alienate myself. Doomed to fail; might as well die…

Mahatma Gandhi Quotes

Whilst being today in religion class, we were studying about Gandhi. We watched the movie about him, read some articles, answered questions and found quotes about him. He is truly an inspirational man. Some quotes that he said are:
"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."
"Where there is love there is life."
"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."
"Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony."
"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."
"A man is but the product of his thoughts what he thinks, he becomes."
"Nobody can hurt me without my permission."
These are just some of the quotes that Gandhi told. Think about them and what they mean.

A Day In The Life Of A Mental Hospital Patient

I was as usual going through my twitter posts and I found this, an article about a day in the life of a mental hospital patient. It got me interested. This passage was written in the patients words.

6:05 am: You lie awake in your tiny bed, underneath the salmon covers, your neck sore from sleeping on one pillow (you asked for another but you’ll need a doctor’s order to have more than one.) Your sleep medicine has worn off and you are now once again a prisoner to your insomnia.
All there is to do now is listen to your roommate snore and mutter to herself in her sleep and the sounds of the nurses talking and phones ringing at the nurses station. You remember a Seroquel-induced nightmare you had previously in the night in which you were trapped in a house that was filling with water, drowning and gasping for air. You make a mental note to mention the dream to your doctor later on.
7:00 am: Morning checks. A tech bangs on your door just as you have started to drift off into a sweet sleep again and informs you that you must be up for breakfast in thirty minutes. You incoherently moan something that resembles an “OK,” roll over and close your eyes again.
7:10 am: Brush your teeth, brush your hair, make your bed, and put on a sweatshirt.
7:15 am: You drag your exhausted body out of bed and grab a cup of the weakest, wateriest coffee you have ever ingested from the nurses station. You line up against the wall and prepare to be paraded down to the cafeteria.
7:30 am: Breakfast time. Today is Friday so it’s pancake day, which means spirits are high among the residents. Eggs with cheese, bacon, grits and cereal are also served in the cafeteria, which reminds you of the one that you ate in during your elementary school years. You opt for Cheerios, which you will eat by putting three at a time into your spoon (you are very ritualistic when it comes to your eating habits) and a few sips of black coffee.
7:45 am: You are put on one-on-one after each and every meal, which means a nurse must accompany you at all times because you are bulimic and they don’t trust you not to vomit up your food. This upsets you greatly and you cry.
8:30 am: Community group. You discuss at length the rules and regulations of the hospital (only use the phone for 10 minutes at a time, bath buckets are under no circumstances to be kept in your room, no towels or food in your rooms, no physical contact with other patients.) Someone complains that their book is missing, someone else cries about something you can’t even comprehend. Someone always cries during your meetings. You set a daily goal (to finish your book, do laundry) and share why you are here.
Most people are there for depression, some for anxiety, many for suicide attempts. One or two are there for insomnia, a few for manic episodes and one boy about your age is there for homicidal ideation. It isn’t as scary as it sounds, he is actually very sweet, close to your age and you are already starting to become close with him. His name is Todd and he beat up one of his friends for stealing his now ex-girlfriend. You yourself are there for a suicide attempt (flashback to overdosing on 3000 milligrams of Seroquel, sleeping for 36 hours and then slitting your wrists, slicing each artery, spewing blood all over the walls of your college dormitory.)
9:10 am: You meet with Dr. Williams, your amazing psychiatrist. He is a young man who always looks perpetually concerned; he is unbelievably kind and compassionate. He runs through the usual routine of questions: do you feel like hurting yourself, how are you sleeping, how is your mood (no, bad, depressed) and he takes you off of your lithium and ups your Abilify. He also prescribes you Ambien, which is stronger than the sleep medicine.
9:47 am: Code one! A 90-pound schizophrenic girl screams and punches the walls (she hears voices and sees monsters that aren’t there) and a code team is called to sedate and restrain her. Incidents like this are uncommon on your unit but not unheard of. They take her away, kicking and screaming.
10:00 am: You and Todd sit side by side reading a book and holding hands. His hand is rough and you can’t help but smile. He makes you a little less scared in an unfamiliar setting like this. A tech glares and scolds you for breaking the coveted “no-touching” policy.
11:30 am: Process group with your social workers. Today’s topic is “combating negative thoughts.” You do an exercise where you write a negative thought and three positive ones to counteract it. Several people cry when they read theirs and one man launches into an off-topic diatribe on the importance of exercise until the social worker, Tonya, politely cuts him off.
1:00 pm: Vital signs are taken. They weigh you and make you stand backward on the scale.12:30 pm: Lunchtime. Pizza is being served today so everyone is in good spirits, except for you who is a diagnosed anorexic. You get a salad which you drown in mustard and pepper (anorexics have strange eating habits) and a Diet Coke. You don’t finish your salad and a tech tells you you’re going to lose points for not eating, which means you might have to stay longer. You cry.
1:15 pm: You drink a ton of coffee and experience a sugar/caffeine-induced mania and decide you’re going to start writing a book. A tech tells you to calm down and makes you drink a glass of water.
2:00 pm: Recreational therapy. You watch the movie “The Karate Kid” and popcorn is served. You don’t eat it, which gets noted in your chart by a tech.
2:30 pm: Education group. A short, older lady who claims to have once been a backup singer for Aerosmith preaches on bipolar disorder and the evils of not being compliant with medication.
4:00 pm: Visitation hour.
5:00 pm: Line up for dinner. Tonight is beef stroganoff (everyone groans) and steamed carrots. You don’t eat and spend dinner hour making an elaborate design out of your peas and carrots.
6:00 pm: You sketch a picture of Todd and he draws one of you. It’s true love.
8:00 pm: Closure group. You review the daily goals you set. Some people meet them, others don’t. You met both of yours (to finish your book and do laundry.) A lady who is in there for bipolar disorder breaks down and sobs for 20 minutes about not achieving her goal.
8:30 pm: Finally out of sight from the techs, you and Todd watch TV, his head in your lap, you stroking his hair.
9:00 pm: Night meds, a very popular time of evening for obvious reasons. Everyone races to be at the front of the line. You would think they were giving out hundred dollar bills and not psychiatric medication. You dutifully take your Seroquel and Gabitril for sleep and your Abilify for depression.
9:30 pm: Everyone hangs out in the common room, laughing and talking about anything and everything. You are a big happy family and for a moment, just a moment, you feel like a normal teenager who is not spending her summer in a mental hospital for being a depressive-borderline personality-bipolar-bulimic-anorexic mess. Life is good.
11:00 pm: “Lights out!” a nurse shouts. The manic patients and insomniacs groan in disdain. Todd kisses you when a tech isn’t looking and your heart melts.
11:15 pm: You happily drift off into a deep, medicated slumber, thinking that today was not all that bad and tomorrow probably won’t be either.
Mental hospitals are very misunderstood places. There is a certain stigma not only attached to being a patient in a mental hospital, but to the whole field of mental health to begin with. The people I met during my stay at Holly Hill were not crazy. They were not nuts. They just needed a little extra help and a safe, relaxing place to recuperate from their problems. Most of the people I met were perfectly normal, functioning members of society with jobs, families, friends and a positive future. Some were students, like myself.
Going to a mental hospital is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed by and I encourage everyone to take that step if they find it necessary. Life can be overwhelming and sometimes we just need to heal. Holly Hill changed my life. I went in suicidal, depressed, and a terrified mess, and two months later, I came out, in the process of being healed, with new friends, and a new perspective on life. My hospitalization not only saved my life, it changed it.
